Reinventing the book culture for the 21st century
On the question: How do we start thinking? The answer may be: It starts with traumatic experiences. By reading books, disturbing experiences become problems that give rise to thought. But, we tend to see books as sources of information, as educational resources, as handbooks, while forgeting that books actually constitute a way in which we live our existence. We are our books; we become the books we read. However, in view of recent developments we need to revise the notion of the book. Notions like "the end of the book" and "the book to come" force us into this direction. The implications for reading, writing and invention are vast.
