My presentation appraises reading promotion in Latin America in the last thirty years. Besides, I approach the need to evaluate, in my opinion, the long term effects of the actions taken so far on the deeper transformations of the representations that society makes of reading and writing practices. I will give some examples of some projects that contribute to these transformations deeply and significantly.
